What Are You After?
The distance between pressing a button on a tape recorder and muting a Chopin nocturne and pressing a button and launching nuclear missiles is not very great. We have become so accustomed to pressing buttons for various purposes that we have become desensitized to them.
Taking photographs is actually another example of the behaviors that lead us to totalitarianism. Every press of the shutter means becoming part of a series of unrelated images, where everything photographed is consumed, torn from its natural environment. It doesn’t matter though.
What is Walking Totem?
Personalized Approach
So what is the meaning of life? What about love? If so, what is the meaning of a bouquet of violets? It has no meaning. Life and love are life and love. A bouquet of violets is a bouquet of violets, and the idea of deriving meaning from them ruins everything. So a Walking Totem is a Walking Totem. A photograph is a photograph.

Henri Matisse painted with bright colors and free brushwork after seeing the work of the Impressionists and Van Gogh. Influenced by other artists and the light of Corsica, Southern France, and North Africa, Matisse became interested in capturing undiluted, luminous colors. He said he sought to create art that "has a soothing, calming effect on the mind, like a good armchair."
